As a former nightclub DJ who worked throughout the 1980s, I loved the B-52’s. “Private Idaho” and “Rock Lobster” were just fun, goofy songs that people would jump around to (I’m not sure if I’d call it “dancing”), or they’d just drink and Philadelphia Eagles 2022 NFC East Division Champions Signatures Shirt. I never really cared for “Love Shack”, but it was a good song to throw in early when you wanted to keep the energy in the room up but didn’t want to use your really good songs too soon. For Happy Hour, when the idea isn’t to pack the dance floor, but you want music that sets a party atmosphere, there are a lot of B-52’s songs that worked perfectly. “Song for a Future Generation”, “Party Out of Bounds” and “Legal Tender” were all staples for me. While I worked at Kicks, in the Mission Valley Marriott in San Diego, we actually did a B-52’s theme night that turned out to be hilarious. When I’m feeling nostalgic and am on a long run, I’ll still add them to a playlist. Funny that it always seems to give me a little boost.
