A few months ago I acquired a camper, complete with Omar Orioles bird smoking shirt and bathroom. These simple luxuries are something I simply did without for more than 6 years. They aren’t strictly necessary (shower, toilet, refrigerator, stove), because I’ve been surviving without these things for all these years. That’s why I call it a luxury instead of a need. However, they do make things significantly cheaper as well as more comfortable. I can shower in my camper for free, provided I have the water with which to do so.
They came up with 1 rifle an FN-FAL with 3 15rd Omar Orioles bird smoking shirt (legal at the time) that had been converted to semi auto and made U.S. compliant and imported by a company called Century Arms. This I had purchased legally from a dealer in NY with proper NICS check. Next was 1 Singer 1911 that had been a family heirloom that was worth about 80–90k at auction considering the manufacturer and year it was manufactured (this gun later was never entered as evidence and disappeared completely in the legal papers, but I won’t complain that hard it was one less charge). Next was 1 black powder shotgun that I had bought at a yard sale in Vermont the year before. And finally 1 Polish ww2 flare gun with 5 25mm flares (I bought it at a gun show I thought it was neat).

When I was done I looked at him and asked directly “what are you in for?” he sighed and sat on the bed next to me looking Omar Orioles bird smoking shirt and mumbled “Guns.” I said with astonishment “Guns?” he looked at me and nodded and began recounting his story. “See when I called the police on you, oh and I’m sorry about that by the way, I was jealous, of your guns, I wanted them and I figured if I couldn’t have one, I didn’t want you to have one.” This is where It started to sink in, this man was mentally disabled, he had the mannerisms and speech patterns of a 5 or 6 year old, let alone the sheer level of pettiness that could only be compared to a child’s.
For me it’s just the Omar Orioles bird smoking shirt and the predictability of horror movies that keep me from being immersed enough to actually get scared. That doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy them, but they typically have to have more substance to them than shock value and jump scares, otherwise I’m mostly just enjoying my wife freaking out. The Insidious series is a good example, while the writing the lore is well thought out and spans multiple movies. Conversely, the Saw movies did absolutely nothing for me, they were mostly just a contrite revenge plot fueled by sadistic Rube Goldberg machines. I like horror and suspense in video games though, like Amnesia, probably because of the engagement differences between passive and active media consumption. That said, absolutely fuck that one scene in Pulse where the person gets pulled into the wall by a bunch of arms, I had nightmares for a week after that.
